The Guangzhou Branch is an agency of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is connected with the South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, South China Botanical Garden, Guangzhou Institute of Energy, Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Guangzhou Chemical Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. in Guangdong, the Institute of Subtropical Agricultural Ecology in Hunan, and the Institute of Deep Sea Science and Engineering in Hainan. In addition, there are three unincorporated units relying on the Guangzhou Branch: Guangzhou Institute of Industrial Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Technology Innovation and Incubation Center of the Cloud Computing Industry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Industrial Technology Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Foshan. There are four major national scientific and technological infrastructure projects under construction or preparation, such as the China Spallation Neutron Source Project and the Jiangmen Neutrino Experiment Project.

The Human Tissue and Organ Degeneration Research Center of the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the Degeneration Center) aims at the prevention and treatment of senile degenerative diseases, and conducts research on metabolic mechanisms, new materials, and repair technologies in bone, trauma, cardiovascular and other fields for the aging and damage of tissues and organs. At present, the team has formed a cutting-edge innovation team combining production, education, research, medicine and finance under the platform construction of the South China Biomedical Materials and Implant Devices Innovation Demonstration Base of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Joint Laboratory of Biomaterials of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Guangdong Marine Biomaterials Engineering Technology Center and the Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Marine Biomedical Materials.
