In 1885, Walter Blombach, the great-grandfather of the current owner Birgit Lennartz, founded a family-run file-making business in Klausen near Remscheid. These products were already being sold to many countries in the 19th century via exporters from Remscheid, Hamburg and Bremen. At the turn of the century, the first electric file-making machines and a blacksmith's hammer were purchased. Business was good until the First World War. But then the sons and all the workers were drafted into military service. Despite this, Walter Blombach managed to continue and maintain the company through the war alone!
