Islamophobia is prejudice and discrimination towards Islam, Muslims and people and symbols understood as such. The Council of Europe and the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination of the UN define Islamophobia as: “[…] a form of racism and xenophobia manifested through hostility, exclusion, rejection and hatred against Muslims, especially when the Muslim population is a minority, something that occurs with greater impact in Western countries.” The Moroccan Association for the Integration of Immigrants executes the project “Algorithms and neurons II: raising awareness about Islamophobia” is developed with a subsidy granted by the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030 from the tax allocation of the Personal Income Tax and the Corporate Tax for the development of actions of general interest promoting coexistence and social cohesion. The project is made up of a heterogeneous staff, from different backgrounds and professional profiles. Furthermore, the history of the association makes us especially interested in understanding Islamophobia in a transversal and intersectional way, that is, understanding that it is a type of racism not only due to a confessional issue but also racial, economic, gender and intertwined with other types of discrimination.
