YMCA is the abbreviation for "Young People's Christian Association". The World Federation of YMCA was founded in 1855 as a worldwide Christian movement that unites people from all social classes, denominations, races and nationalities according to the following statement of principles: The purpose of the Young People's Christian Associations is to bring together young people who, according to the Holy Scriptures, recognize Jesus Christ as their God and Savior, who want to be his disciples in their faith and life and who want to strive together to spread the kingdom of their Master among young people. (Paris Basis of 1855 adopted by the World Federation.) What does the YMCA want? Age-appropriate integration of Christian beliefs into group work, including through devotions, Bible discussions, stories, discussions on shared service. Compulsory youth work, i.e. encouraging regular, punctual, reliable and responsible participation. Encouraging physically and mentally strong Christian personalities, including through advice and pastoral help in all questions of life. The CVJM Gütersloh e.V. is part of the CVJM World Association, which is the largest youth association committed to young people in over 120 countries around the world.
