The Institute of Synthetic Biology (Preparatory Committee) (hereinafter referred to as “Institute of Synthetic Biology”) was established in December 2017. It adopts the engineering design concept of synthetic biology and focuses on the research of synthetic reconstruction of artificial life elements, gene circuits, biological devices, multicellular systems, etc., aiming to reveal the essence of life and explore the basic laws of life activities. The Institute actively carries out market-oriented and industrialization-oriented technology transformation, and strives to develop into an internationally influential synthetic biology R&D base and industrial innovation center.

Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics is a comprehensive institute that emphasizes both basic research and applied research, combines applied research with technology transformation, and takes task-based disciplines as its main feature. Key disciplines include: catalytic chemistry, engineering chemistry, chemical laser and molecular reaction kinetics, as well as modern analytical chemistry and biotechnology. Focusing on the national energy development strategy, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics launched the preparation work for the National Laboratory for Clean Energy (DNL) in October 2011. DNL is the first national laboratory to be established in my country's energy field. A total of 11 research departments are planned to be established, including fossil energy and applied catalysis, low-carbon catalysis and engineering, energy conservation and environment, fuel cells, energy storage, hydrogen energy and advanced materials, bioenergy, solar energy, ocean energy, energy foundation and strategy, and energy research technology platform.
